SUZUKILL

The first meeting of SUZUKILL was organized on 1-2 March 2016 in Vienna and Seibersdorf (Austria) with all partners. The first day in Vienna International Centre (IAEA Headquarters) was dedicated to scientific presentations and discussions (see picture below). The next day, we had opportunity to visit the impressive IPCL infrastructure in Seibersdorf.

We are pleased to welcome on board Thomas Enriquez, who is recruited as PhD student at University of Rennes1. He will be based in ECOBIO lab (France) and he will mainly explore applied aspects related to the cold tolerance of D. suzukii.
We are pleased to welcome on board Katerina Nikolouli, who is recruited as PhD student at BOKU (Vienna). She will be based in IPCL Seibersdorf (Austria) and actively cooperate with LBBE team from Lyon (France). She will explore genomic changes during lab domestication and conduct pilot experiments on the development of a combined Sterile Insect Technique / Incompatible Insect Technique (SIT/IIT) approach against D. suzukii.
We are pleased to welcome on board Fabiana Sassu from Italy, who is recruited as PhD student at BOKU (Vienna). She will be based in IPCL Seibersdorf (Austria). She will conduct pilot experiments on the development of Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) against D. suzukii.
At the orf.at news (main homepage for news in Austria) there was a short report on the project aims – Carlos was interviewed. see link here : http://science.orf.at/stories/2784438/.
Romain Georges and Herve Colinet from Rennes University made a presentation about the Suzukii issue with fruits producers that were concerned with the problem and very interested in developments of alternative solutions
